The National eRegister in Malawi modernizes health data collection and patient tracking at the primary care level. Deployed in partnership with the Ministry of Health and GIZ, the solution replaces paper-based records with digital workflows at health facilities, enabling midwives and frontline health workers to deliver better maternal and child healthcare. With mobile-based tools, the eRegister captures clinical encounters in real-time and integrates with national reporting systems like DHIS2, ensuring accurate and timely health data.
Health workers in Malawi were reliant on paper-based systems to record antenatal and under-five consultations, leading to lost records, delayed reporting, and service duplication. Communities faced long waiting times, and during emergencies like floods, paper health passports were often lost. The Ministry lacked real-time visibility into service delivery and could not track care continuity or referrals effectively.
