Open access to electrification data for smarter energy planning and coordination in Ethiopia.
The Ethiopian Public Institutions Electrification Portal (EPEPI) is a GIS-based platform developed to centralize data on solar and off-grid electrification initiatives across Ethiopia’s public sector. In collaboration with GIZ and the Ministry of Water & Energy, Speedykom designed a user-friendly portal that supports data-driven policy, donor coordination, and private sector collaboration — improving transparency, access, and impact of energy infrastructure projects.
Ethiopia lacked a single source of truth on where and how public institutions were being electrified. Data was scattered across agencies, often outdated, and inaccessible. This made it difficult for planners, funders, and private developers to coordinate initiatives, avoid duplication, or identify underserved areas for investment.
Speedykom designed EPEPI as an open-access data portal with geospatial visualizations, downloadable datasets, and contextual regional overlays. Features included:
